Lightweight 28V DC GPU | Portable DC Ground Power for General Aviation & Helicopters

Most 28V DC GPUs are heavy. They need wheels, a tow bar, and a strong back. But not every aircraft needs 600 amps. A Cessna Caravan, a Robinson helicopter, or an old Beechcraft barely draws 100 amps. So why drag around a 200kg monster? The Lightweight 28V DC GPU was built for smaller aircraft and smaller budgets. It's a compact rectifier with handles. One person can carry it from the bench to the aircraft. Plug it into any wall outlet, connect the NATO plug, and you've got clean 28V DC power. No tug, no trailer, no crane. We sell these to flight schools, private hangars, and museums with old warbirds. They work. And they cost about half what a cart‑style GPU runs.

Lightweight 28V DC GPU Main Features

  • Adjustable voltage – 22‑32VDC. Set it for 28V for most aircraft, or 25.5V for older 24V systems.
  • Current limit – Dial in a limit from 10A to 200A. Protects the aircraft's wiring.
  • Short‑circuit proof – Output can be shorted indefinitely. The supply just goes into constant‑current mode.
  • Reverse polarity protection – If you hook it up backwards, a diode takes the hit. Replaceable fuse inside.

Why Choose ACSOON Lightweight 28V DC GPU?

  • Carry it yourself – Two handles, 18kg. A fit adult can manage. Older units needed a forklift.
  • Quiet – No fan below 100A. At full load, a tiny fan spins but you won't notice.
  • Works on any 220V outlet – Just plug it into the wall. No need for three‑phase.
  • Simple as a battery charger – Turn it on, set the voltage, connect to the aircraft. That's it.

Lightweight 28V DC GPU Application Areas

  • Flight schools – Daily pre‑heats and battery charges for Cessna 172, Piper Archer, Diamond DA40.
  • Private aircraft hangars – Keep your Mooney or Cirrus battery topped up and ready to go.
  • Helicopter operators – Robinson R22/R44, Bell 206. Ground power for avionics and rotor brake.
  • Museums and restorations – Power up vintage warbirds without running the engine. Safe for old wiring.

Our Services

Quality Control
01

Quality Control

  • Every unit load tested – 200A for 1 hour. Then 300A for 30 seconds. Thermal camera on it the whole time.
  • Ripple measured – At 100A and 200A. Needs to stay under 0.2V RMS.
  • Drop test – One from each batch gets dropped from waist height onto concrete. Must still power up.
  • Final human check – Someone flips every switch, turns every knob, looks for loose screws.
02

R&D Results

  • Weight reduction – First prototype used a heavy copper transformer. Switched to a high‑frequency ferrite design. Cut weight by more than half.
  • Handle placement – Original had handles on the ends. Too awkward. Moved them to the top, centered. Much easier.
  • Fan noise – Early version ran the fan all the time. Pilots complained. Now it only spins when needed.
  • Added a carry strap – Optional shoulder strap for walking across the ramp. Some customers asked for it.

FAQ

Q1: Can this unit start a jet engine?
A: No. 200A is fine for a small turbine APU start on a helicopter or a turboprop. For a 737 or A320 APU, you need 600A. We make bigger units for that.
Q2: What's the input current at full load?
A: On 220V single‑phase, about 15A. You'll need a dedicated 20A breaker. Don't run it off an extension cord rated for 10A.
Q3: Can I charge a 24V lead‑acid battery with it?
A: Yes. Set voltage to 28.8V (float) or 29.4V (equalize). Set current limit to the battery's recommended charge rate. The supply will run in constant‑current mode until the battery reaches set voltage.
Q4: Is the output isolated from the input?
A: Yes. There's a high‑frequency transformer. The output floats – you can ground one side if needed.
Q5: What's the lead time from Xi'an?
A: 3 weeks. We keep a few in stock for urgent orders – ask sales.
