Compact AC Power Source | Small Variable Frequency AC Supply for Portable Use

Sometimes you don't need a big heavy supply. You need something you can grab with one hand, stick under your arm, and carry to a different bench or even a different building. That's the Compact AC Power Source.It's our smallest variable AC unit – about the size of a toaster. But don't let the size fool you. Inside is the same IGBT‑based converter and isolation transformer we use in our bigger models, just scaled down. You get clean, regulated AC from 0‑300V and 45‑500Hz, all from a unit that weighs about as much as a laptop bag.We built this for engineers who move around: field service techs, test engineers who share a bench, or anyone who just hates wrestling a 20kg power supply onto a shelf. It works.

Compact AC Power Source Main Features

Two voltage ranges – 0‑150V and 0‑300V. Toggle on the front.
Frequency from 45 to 500Hz – Covers 50/60Hz mains, 400Hz avionics, and motor test frequencies.

Quality Control

Every unit burned in – 2 hours at 80% load. We check thermal rise and output stability.
Isolation test – 2kV between input and output for 1 minute. No breakdown.
Calibration check – Voltage and frequency accuracy verified at 5 points. Sticker on the bottom.
Drop test – One unit from each batch gets dropped from desk height (75cm) onto a concrete floor. Must still work.

R&D Results

Size reduction – First prototype used a standard toroid. Too heavy. We switched to a custom wound C‑core. Saved 30% of the weight.
Handle design – Original had no handle. Customers carried it like a box of books. Added a molded handle on the top.
Input switch – Added the 110/220V selector after a customer in Japan plugged a 110V unit into 220V and let the smoke out.
Fan curve – Early units had the fan on all the time. Too noisy. Now it only spins when internal temp hits 55°C.

Shipped from Xi'an – woodern box with foam inserts. Small enough for DHL or FedEx.

FAQ
Q1: Can this unit really do 500Hz?
A: Yes. But at 500Hz and full voltage, the power rating drops a bit. The 1kVA unit at 500Hz is good for about 700VA. The transformer core losses increase with frequency. For full 1kVA, stay under 200Hz.
Q2: What's the difference between this and your benchtop model?
A: The benchtop model (ACSW‑B series) is a little bigger, has a higher continuous power rating (up to 3kVA), and costs less per VA. This Compact series is smaller and lighter, optimized for portability. If it never leaves your bench, buy the benchtop. If you carry it around, buy this.
Q3: Can I run it from a car inverter?
A: Maybe. It needs a clean sine wave input. Cheap modified‑square‑wave inverters may cause it to fault. Test before you rely on it. We recommend a pure sine wave inverter rated for at least double the unit's input power.
Q4: Is the output isolated?
A: Yes, fully isolated. There's a transformer between the inverter and the output. You can float the output or ground one side. No connection to the input.
Q5: What's the lead time from Xi'an?
A: 3weeks for 1kVA and 2kVA. The 3kVA takes 4 weeks. We stock the smaller ones because they're popular.
