Portable AC Power Source | 5kVA Variable Frequency AC Supply for Field & Lab Use

Most variable AC power supplies are too heavy to move. You bolt them to a rack and they stay there. But what if you need clean adjustable AC at a job site? Or in a test trailer? Or you just don't have a dedicated bench?

That's why we built the Portable AC Power Source. It's a full‑featured 5kVA frequency converter in a case with a handle. Same IGBT guts as our big rack units, but half the weight. You can throw it in the back of a van, carry it up a flight of stairs, and plug it into any wall outlet.

We started selling these to avionics repair shops that travel to aircraft. Now calibration labs, solar inverter field techs, and even film crews use them.

Portable AC Power Source

Portable AC Power Source Main Features

  • Two voltage ranges – 0‑150V and 0‑300V via a toggle switch.

  • Frequency from 45 to 500Hz – covers 400Hz avionics, 50/60Hz mains, and motor test ranges.

  • Output isolation transformer – standard. Protects you and your DUT from ground loops.

  • Carry handle – recessed, steel reinforced. Also works as a cable wrap.

Portable AC Power Source

Why Choose ACSOON Portable AC Power Source?

  • Actually portable – 18kg with the handle. No wheels needed. We've measured – a fit adult can carry it 200m without stopping.

  • Runs on any outlet – 110V or 220V, auto‑sensing. No switch to flip.

  • Real power – 5kVA continuous, not "peak". Enough for a 3HP motor or a rack of servers.

  • Simple panel – analog‑style controls. No menu diving. What you set is what you get.

Portable AC Power Source Application Areas

  • Avionics field maintenance – power up a 400Hz radar box on the tarmac without dragging a GPU cart.

  • Solar inverter commissioning – simulate grid loss or frequency shift at rooftop installations.

  • Film and TV – provide clean 60Hz power for camera and lighting gear in countries with 50Hz mains.

  • Backup for labs – when your main programmable source is in for calibration, this keeps your test running.

Our Services

Quality Control
01

Quality Control

  • Every unit shaken – we put it on a vibration table for 30 minutes to simulate van travel.

  • Output verified at 5kVA – resistive load bank for 1 hour. We check temp rise on the transformer.

  • Knob torture – 2000 full rotations on each pot. No crackling or dead spots.

  • Label test – the front panel silk‑screen is rubbed with solvent. It doesn't come off.

02

R&D Results

  • Weight reduction – we switched from a toroidal transformer to a custom C‑core design. Saved 4kg.

  • Handle placement – original prototype had the handle on top, made it top‑heavy. Moved to the side, much better balance.

  • Added a fold‑out foot – so the unit sits at an angle on a bench, easier to see the display.

  • Field feedback – customers wanted a way to lock the voltage knob. We added a small set screw (2mm hex) on the side.

Packaging And Transportation
03

Packaging and Transportation

  • Cardboard box with foam – double‑wall, 30mm foam all around.

  • Included – power cord (2m), output cable (2m with universal outlets), printed quick start.

  • Optional flight case – $150, foam‑lined, wheels and telescoping handle.

  • Shipping weight – 22kg in cardboard, 28kg in flight case.

04

After‑Sales Service

  • 2‑year warranty (return to Xi'an or local distributor).

  • We keep spare knobs, fans, and output modules in stock in LA, Rotterdam, and Singapore.

  • Email support: we usually answer within 12 hours, even on weekends (we have a rotating on‑call tech).

FAQ

Q1: Can I parallel two of these for 10kVA?
A: No. Don’t try it. The output transformers will fight each other. For 10kVA portable, we have a single 10kVA model (ACSW‑110010) – it’s 32kg, still carryable by two people.
Q2: Does it work with 400Hz aircraft loads?
A: Yes. We’ve sold these to GA airports for powering small avionics test benches. At 400Hz, the 5kVA rating drops to about 3.5kVA because of transformer core losses – still fine for most radios and instruments.
Q3: The fan is loud at full load. Normal?
A: Yes. At 5kVA it’s dissipating about 750W of heat. The fan is a 120mm high‑flow unit. If noise bothers you, use it at lower power or put it in another room (the output cable is 2m, but you can extend it).
Q4: Can I use this as a variable transformer (Variac) replacement?
A: Yes, and it’s better. A Variac doesn’t regulate – output voltage sags under load. This unit actively regulates to within 1%. Plus you get adjustable frequency and isolation.
Q5: What’s the input current at full load on 110V?
A: About 23A continuous, 28A during overload. Needs a 30A breaker. On 220V, it’s about 12A – a standard 15A outlet works fine.
